Corporate Security Services in South London
WHMG is a corporate security company providing manned guarding, reception and concierge cover, access control and incident management to offices, warehouses and commercial premises across South London. We have been operating in the boroughs since 2006, our officers are SIA-licensed, and we work on contracted, short-term and one-off arrangements depending on what the site needs. Most of our work runs across Croydon, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Wandsworth and Lewisham, with cover also extending to Sutton, Bexley and the surrounding areas. Every contract starts with us walking the site with you before we put a proposal together.
What South London Sites Actually Have to Deal With
The office stock around Croydon town centre and East Croydon brings its own set of issues, high footfall, mixed-use ground floors, late-running staff using the tram and Southern services after dark. Bromley sits closer to the commuter belt, with business parks around Bromley South and Orpington that look quiet on a Sunday afternoon and need someone there for exactly that reason. Greenwich and Lewisham bring the mixed-tenancy buildings around the peninsula and the larger NHS and healthcare estates around Lewisham and Eltham. Wandsworth and the Battersea side of the river bring the logistics and last-mile warehouse units that have multiplied in the last ten years. Lambeth sits in the middle of all of it.
Where Corporate Security Most Often Falls Short in South London
The reason businesses come to us is rarely a single dramatic incident. Far more often, it is a slow recognition that the cover already in place is not really doing its job. The officer is on site, but staff have stopped escalating things to them. The visitor system exists, but nobody actually checks the pass. The patrol pattern is documented in the contract, but the part of the building that actually causes problems, the loading bay off Purley Way, the side entrance near Wandsworth Town station, the lift lobby on the second floor in central Croydon, never makes it into the report.
That is what happens when a service was deployed onto a site rather than designed around it. Nobody walked the building before the contract started. Nobody asked the people who use it every day what they would change. Over time, staff learn to work around the gaps and the cover becomes technically present but practically ineffective. By the time we are called in, the business has usually worked that out for themselves. They want it sorted without weeks of disruption.
What Good Corporate Cover Actually Looks Like
A working corporate security operation usually combines four things. Manned guarding, reception and concierge security, access control, and incident management. Each one does a different job, and the right balance depends on your premises, your staff and the risks you actually face. We figure that out on a site visit, not from a brief and a phone call.
Behind the operational side, we hold the accreditations you would expect from a serious security provider. WHMG is SIA-licensed, registered with the UK Crowd Management Association (UKCMA) and the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), and an accredited member of the Living Wage Foundation.
Manned Guarding
Manned guarding looks different across the boroughs. In Croydon, it is often a static officer in a reception or lobby position with a defined patrol route, the issue is the volume of public coming through the doors, not the building geography. In Wandsworth, Battersea and the south-bank warehouse units, it is more often a yard patrol pattern covering gates, perimeter and dock doors. In Bromley, Bexley and Sutton, where business parks empty out by seven in the evening, the risk shifts to night cover. Every officer is SIA-licensed and briefed on the specifics of the site before their first shift. Cover runs daytime, out-of-hours, overnight or any combination, on a contracted, short-term or one-off basis.
Reception and Concierge Security
For a lot of South London offices, the front-of-house role is where security and customer experience meet. Our concierge officers handle visitor management, issue and check passes, and enforce the access policy without making the building feel like a fortress. The job changes by location, a central Croydon professional services office or a serviced building near London Bridge has visitors moving through all day, while the corporate buildings around Bromley and the commuter-belt edges see lower volume but a steadier pattern of contractors and deliveries. In multi-tenancy buildings around central Croydon, Lewisham and the larger Greenwich developments, the concierge also handles overflow questions from tenants without dedicated reception.
Morden College, one of our long-standing clients, has summed this up better than any marketing line we could write. They describe the service as "concierge with security, rather than simply security". That is a fair description of what good front-of-house cover should look like.
Access Control and Visitor Management
Most access control issues are not about the technology. They are about whether the policy on paper is the policy that runs at the door. The dominant building type in South London is the multi-tenancy commercial block, the office towers around East Croydon and West Croydon, the converted buildings across Lewisham and Greenwich, the smaller multi-let buildings off Wandsworth High Street and Lavender Hill. Sub-tenants come and go, contractors get added to the list and never removed, and within twelve months the access list bears little relation to who actually works in the building. Rebuilding that list is usually one of the first things we do on a takeover. The other South London pattern is the logistics gate across the Wandsworth, Battersea and Lambeth distribution units, where driver verification and vehicle movement records need standardising rather than left to the officer on duty.
Visitor logs, CCTV footage and access records involve personal data, which is why we are registered with the ICO and handle that data in line with GDPR.
Incident Management
Aggressive visitors, unauthorised entry, fire evacuations, medical emergencies. Our officers are trained for all of these, and a significant proportion came to us from the armed forces or emergency services, reflected in the Armed Forces Covenant Gold Award we hold. The South London incident profile is shaped by two things. Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance response in the inner boroughs is fast by national standards, and the procedure should be written with that in mind. The second is volume, South London sites see a higher rate of low-level incidents than rural commercial premises. Anti-social behaviour outside the building. Aggressive members of the public at reception. Rough sleepers in loading bays, especially in central Croydon, Lewisham and parts of Lambeth.
We sit down with you in advance to write that procedure, so when something does happen, it gets handled the way it should rather than made up on the spot.
A Decade-Plus With Most of Our Clients
The strongest thing we can show you is not a sales document. It is the fact that most of our clients have been with us for more than ten years. One of those is Morden College in Blackheath, a charity providing accommodation and care for older people on extensive grounds in South East London.
"Having taken the decision to move from an in-house to an outsourced service in 2021, we have been very happy with WH. Their team responds well to the complexities of working in a charity that provides accommodation and care for older people in extensive grounds, and we often describe the service as concierge with security, rather than simply security. They give us sound advice and are trusted by both residents and employees." Morden College.
"Henley Royal Regatta has worked with WH since 2013. The WH team delivers both a high quality security operation as well as an excellent customer facing presence to our Competitors, Members and Guests." Henley Royal Regatta.
Other clients include HPower Group, the All England Jumping Course at Hickstead, London Marathon Events, The Jockey Club and Stuarts Events, alongside a broad range of offices, warehouses and commercial premises across South London and the surrounding region.
Why South London Businesses Choose WHMG
Twenty years of doing this work in the same region gives you a clear sense of what holds up and what does not. The clients we have kept the longest have been with us for more than ten years, which is the most honest measure of whether a security service is doing its job.
Every officer on a corporate site for us is SIA-licensed, well presented and selected with care. The Armed Forces Covenant Gold Award reflects the proportion who came to us from a military or emergency services background. We are a Living Wage Employer too, partly because it is the right thing to do and partly because retention is the difference between consistent cover and a different face on your reception every fortnight.
The accreditations matter, but the thing clients tell us most often is that we are straightforward to deal with. If we can do a piece of work, we will explain what it actually takes. If we cannot, we will say so rather than dressing it up.
The Range of Sites We Look After
Our corporate security services in South London cover a broad mix of premises. Offices and corporate headquarters, multi-tenancy commercial buildings, retail and commercial premises, hospitality venues and hotels, private clinics and healthcare facilities, charitable organisations and care providers, industrial and manufacturing sites, and warehousing and logistics operations all feature on the client list.
A separate group of clients sits in the higher-risk category. Financial services firms, jewellers, art galleries, auction houses and pharmaceutical companies often need close protection, intelligence and surveillance, or other specialist work running alongside their standard cover. The same team handles both, so you are not briefing two providers and hoping they coordinate.
Beyond Corporate Cover
As well as corporate security services in South London, WHMG offers a full range of security and emergency response services. This includes residential security services, close protection and specialist security for executives and VIPs, business protection for high-risk commercial sectors, intelligence and surveillance, protestor management, event security and stewarding, and medical, fire and rescue services for events and sites.
Corporate Security Services
We provide corporate security services in South London across the boroughs, including Croydon, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Wandsworth and Lewisham, and we also cover Sussex, Surrey and Kent. Locations outside that footprint are usually workable too. Tell us where you are and we will be straight about whether we are the right firm for the job.
Tell us about your business and what you need, and we will come back to you with a straightforward proposal.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Cost depends on officer numbers, hours covered, the nature of the site, and whether it is contracted or short-term. We quote after a site visit rather than giving a generic hourly rate, because generic rates rarely reflect what the service actually costs to deliver on your specific premises.
-
Yes. Every officer we deploy holds a current SIA licence appropriate to the role they are carrying out. A significant number also have backgrounds in the armed forces and emergency services.
-
Yes. We work on both contracted and shorter-term arrangements, including cover during a period of heightened risk, temporary reception cover, and one-off overnight guarding for sites that are normally unoccupied.
-
Our primary operating areas are Sussex, East Sussex, West Sussex, South London, Kent and Surrey. We also work beyond these areas where the requirement justifies it, so if you are outside the South East, tell us where you are and we will be straightforward about whether we are the right fit.
-
WHMG is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office. Any personal data we handle on your behalf, including visitor records and CCTV footage, is managed in line with GDPR.
-
We take the time to understand the business before putting a solution in place, we are straightforward about what we can and can't do, and we keep clients for a long time. Henley Royal Regatta has worked with us since 2013. HPower Group, well over a decade. That kind of longevity is not something you can fake on a website.
